Want the nerdspeak version?

The Nitty-Gritty

We won't consider you a client—we'll consider you a partner. And we'll offer you the latest internet, network, and IT services to make your business work better. Because we handle everything in-house, you can contract with one team instead of multiple, fragmented vendors—which boosts your ROI, lowers costs, and makes it easy to know who to turn to with questions. Kittens took over your Internet? Don't worry; they're benevolent overlords.

We do our jobs with intense focus, dedication, and professionalism—except here, professionalism is flannel-clad by day, plays ping-pong by night, and homebrews craft beer on the weekend.

We're small enough to be personal and flexible, yet big enough to bring the latest tools to solve your problems. Being local means we take our commitment to each client seriously. We're like your mom: we'll always pick up the phone for you, and any problem of yours is our problem too. (Although, your mom's casseroles are way better.  See you there Sunday.) And if you ever run into a situation we can't help you solve, we'll help you fire us and transition to another IT company. That's how seriously we take our dedication.

So, let's start the conversation. We'll talk to you in your terms, making sure you get the right kinds of services for your business. We know how to talk to tech nerds who had Linux-themed birthday parties in middle school.  But, if you're a total technophobe who defines "server" as "way to pay your way through college," that's cool too.

Q and A with Doug
What does Portland Internetworks do?

We provide a broad array of internet, network, and IT services for businesses. Our model is to bring smart, highly certified people and reliable solutions to solve business’ problems. We can cover many of a business’ needs in-house, which means we can do a more holistic job than if there were separate vendors for each service. We’re great at working with businesses that have the challenge of multiple locations, and we’ve provided them with 24/7 support and operational uptime for 21 years now.

What makes you different from other service providers?

I’d say it’s our employees. They stand out because of their commitment to the underlying business purpose of the systems they support. Yes, we hire for technical expertise, but it’s also critical that they understand business challenges and can communicate with clients about the big picture. Everyone on our team is a tech nerd, but there are no one-dimensional nerds allowed; we all have other interests that round us out too—running, music, books, yoga, cooking.

Do you have any recurring dreams?

Yes, in my dreams I can fly, although I crash a lot. It probably has something to do with flying over 100,000 miles a year!

How would you sum up your company’s values and priorities?

We pride ourselves on partnering with businesses to maximize the value of their technology investment. We don’t want technology to be an intrusion; we want it to be a handy tool that helps businesses run smoothly and turn a profit.

We emphasize consistency and dependability. We believe in redundancy (meaning everything is backed up by something else in case of a failure), we believe in careful, constant monitoring, and we have lightning-fast response times when trouble arises. In fact, we try to spot problems before they’re even noticed so we can nip them in the bud before they ever cause a disruption.

We keep open, constant communication with our clients so we can address potential problems before they become issues.

Are you an IT nerd? (No judgment)

I have a computer science degree (University of Oregon) and I am an accounting graduate and former CPA (University of the Pacific, Deloitte), so I'm definitely a geek. (I play the viola, for cryin’ out loud!) But most people don't find me geeky. I leave the serious nerd-ery to my experts on the service team.

Where We Hang Our Hats

We are a growing family that needed more space, thus we relocated to a new, larger office in the NE of Portland off of 10th Avenue. We love our new home, and wouldn't mind showing it off! Stop by to visit the gang, have a chat, and sip some cold brew, fresh out of the tap!

How We Dish Up the Latest Tech

Our services aren't just for technophobes who break into hives trying to set up a new printer. Even if you're the kind of person who plays Scrabble in binary, we're a lifesaver for your business too, offering every kind of IT service you need—all from a single, qualified team. Having everything taken care of frees up your time and resources to deal with your own daily tasks. (Sorry. The intern broke the coffee maker again. Can you fix it, pretty please?)

We handle the stuff most providers don't mess with: everything from branch-to-branch communications to VPNs, web hosting and firewall engineering. We use Cisco networking hardware paired with Dell and Cisco servers, so your network is built with the most reliable foundation out there.

It's our job to deal with your crises, or better yet, prevent them. Every system is fully redundant and backed up to the nth degree—and we monitor 24/7, so if trouble arises, we can proactively nip it in the bud before it rains on your parade. We engineer disaster preparedness into our networks, and to be double-triple-supersafe, we cross-train our engineers and document everything so no critical bit of knowledge gets locked up in only one brain.

What does all this add up to? You won't ever have to stay up all night if a server crashes, a hard drive is having a bad day, or the office internet has mysteriously been commandeered by alien interlopers. Any network drama of yours is our problem to solve—and if we can't solve a system remotely, we'll dispatch our folks across the region right away.

We know that ultimately, businesspeople and geeks alike just want maximized uptime and minimal network neuroses—with some friendly, prompt customer service thrown in. We aim to take care of all of the above.
